Politics Empty Politics

Post  Raludcia Wed Aug 04, 2010 5:38 pm

Well NS was conceived, I believe, as a place to simulate nations and discuss politics. Now after messages sent between us on the RMB I would like to know where some of my regionmates stand, IRL, regarding politics.

Here are some issues,

Your stance on Religion?
Your stance on Law and Order?
Your stance on Immigration?
Your stance on Drugs?
Your stance on Abortion?
Your stance on Homosexuality?
Your stance on the Economy?

(I really don't mean to offend anyone here so I apologise if I do. I see the world in, I believe, a logical way and try to be objective to all points of view so please do not hasten to challenge my views)

My views could be summised as such,

Religion -

As an atheist myself I don't see much point in Religion having a major role in modern society. I don't discourage religion if you have chosen it, yet forced circumsision and the like I believe is wrong, so is forcing a child to attend church as from a young age it could be considered brainwashing of sorts. In an ideal state of mine people would be free to worship who they chose, however religion would be monitered, the world proves to us time and again that religion is used to perpetrate horrific acts (i.e; the Crusades, 911 and 7/7 attacks - All Religiously motivated) and NO religion is without its extremists.

Law and Order -

You may be surprised that I have a rather "conservative" slant towards crime and punishment. I believe in an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. If you take from society you should repay your debt I believe, surely that is common sense?

For the worst crimes I would have the death penalty, as simply some criminals cannot be rehabilitated. An ex-rapist for example is unlikely to ever fit back into society, and as such it is better for all that he is done away with.

For most crimes however I believe that criminals should be punished. By punished I mean have a really hard time in jail, rather they would be out of jail and contributing to society, be that through building roads, cleaning garbage or doing other heavy, labour intensive tasks. Hell we could even employ free labor to get the UK coal industry back on track Wink

Immigration -

Immigration is sometime good, and sometimes bad. The mass inflow of a new culture into the area of an established old one is obviously going to lead to increased tensions between the new arrivals and the original inhabitants (although Racism is something I cannot understand). Immigration needs to be limited to what is necessary.

The nation needs uneducated laborers? let them in and no-one else. The nation needs degree graduates? offer foreign nationals the chance to live here with a bursary.

Immigration is only an issue because it is not controlled. Emigration however should have no limits, people should be allowed to move if they do not like the system in place.

Drugs -

By drugs I of course mean the non-legal kind. My attitude to these is liberal, simply legalise all drugs. Why? well the government could then cut crime, supply drugs to the populace itself, and tax the sale of drugs. This would earn the government money, stop most drugs related crime. And although the nation may suffer, the worst users would probably OD and die off...

Abortion -

This is one issue that seems to be more of an issue in America than over my side of the atlantic. To me its pretty simple, the baby is in the womans body, she has to birth it so surely its her choice if she wants to go through with it or not?

Please counter this argument with logic.

Homosexuality -

Another issue that amazes me it is even an issue. To me the biggest display of freedom is choosing who you love, if you want to do a guy or a girl I see no problem with that, in fact why not both? Really why is this even an issue?!

The Economy -

Well here is where most of you will likely disagree with me. I am a communist, I believe the state should control the economy, tightly.

Why? well, private companies just aren't responsible to protect people or the environment.

Here is an example you Americans will be familiar with, the BP oil spill. Who's fault was that? unregulated capitalism.

The bhopal gas leak? Unregulated capitalism.

The fact that Africa and India starve while the Western world enjoys standards of living which are, to be blunt, obscene? Unregulated Capitalism.

Capitalism leads to competition, and competition leads to conflict. Conflict ultimately is a bad thing, the cost evading companies in this world exploit the resources of Africa leaving its people destitute. BP's oil spill occured primarily because the government simply trusted a bunch of unscrupulous businessmen who, at the end of it all are only after profit.

The fact that beggars and homeless live in the streets of the so called "developed world" show that we are in fact not.

Please people, argue with me I would like to disprove you Razz

Religion
Being Agnostic myself I don't really pay much attention to Religion. Most people in modern society use Religion as a simple excuse for something or another. I never really got into church until around age 7 and by then it was to late and I slept through half the visits. My parents have a different view point but by and by If you believe in god, good for you, just don't try and push your believes onto me.

Also Ralud You seem to have misinterpreted the definition of atheist. An atheist actively defies and denounces god, claiming that he doesn't exist and that churches should be banned.

law and Order
Is a really good TV series. xD

I have a rather "conservative" slant towards crime and punishment. I believe in an eye for an eye and what not. If you take from society you should repay your debt I believe, surely that is common sense?

For the worst crimes I would have the death penalty, as simply some criminals cannot be rehabilitated. An ex-rapist for example is unlikely to ever fit back into society, and as such it is better for all that he is done away with.

For other crimes that aren't as serious, I say instead of using Taxpayer money to beef up the guy, and provide free room and board, I suggest we put them to work. They could work the mines, do construction work, work in factories, for no cost at all. Not only would this support the economy but it would also mean that we could get rid of prisons, which means fewer taxes.

Immigration
I'm fine with immigrants as long as they go through the proper channels. Living in Texas I have to constantly deal with news and stuff involving illegals taking our jobs.

Immigration is only an issue because it is not controlled. Emigration however should have no limits, people should be allowed to move if they do not like the system in place.

Drugs
I honestly think that drug restrictions need to be better enforced and such. All the illegal drugs do is make someone feel high and that is a liability a nation cannot afford. In my opinion nations should not only ban the drugs but award a life sentence for consecutive users. That way they actually contribute to society.

Abortion
I'm pro-choice up until the 3 month mark, because that is when it stops being an embryo and becomes a living creature. Besides that is plenty of time to decide if you want to have a kid or not, I can't understand why you would carry a child for 6 months and then suddenly not want it anymore.

Homosexuality
I'm strictly against it myself, but as long as a gay guy doesn't come on to me I'm fine with them. People have their choices to make, just stay the fu*k away from me.

Economics
Alright this is where I draw the line. I am 100% capitalist and support unregulated forms of it. Not like the sh*t America has now, I'm talking where the Government does nothing except purchase and sell things to the corporations.

Yes this can lead to problems but we learn from these issues and improve things to prevent them from happening again.

Now time to argue with Ralud:

Capitalism leads to competition, and competition leads to conflict. Conflict ultimately is a bad thing, the cost evading companies in this world exploit the resources of Africa leaving its people destitute. BP's oil spill occured primarily because the government simply trusted a bunch of unscrupulous businessmen who, at the end of it all are only after profit.

Conflict is necessary, and even if you don't know it is always happening. We are always in conflict with ourselves and nature. Conflict leads to evolution, without it we would be stuck in the present, how stagnant. The fact that beggars and homeless people live in this world is sad yes, BUT 85% of these people are homeless and begging because they refuse to get a job and work for a living. You want to talk about Africa, why don't we talk about how they are always fighting each other, and how we supply them with food, that they then go trade for weapons. How about we talk about the Africans that let our corporations in? If the Africans cared about their standards of living then they would stop fighting and kick our corporations out.

The BP spill was due to the fact that (in my opinion) a couple of dumb brits decided to ignore a few safety procedures in order to complete construction faster. I blame our lolpresident for not doing anything and instead going on vacation, I however don't blame capitalism.

Communism leads to stagnation, Marx knew this, he wanted everyone to be happy, but he also knew that evolution would halt. If everything was provided for you, you wouldn't have a reason to go out and achieve your dreams, to fulfill goals.

Capitalism brings about a future.

Your stance on Religion?
I am a Roman Catholic. Simple.

Your stance on Law and Order?
See my NS nations wiki page. Scroll down to Law and Order

Your stance on Immigration?
Do it legally or get deported, this prevents criminals or terrorists from getting into places where they are not wanted.

Your stance on Drugs?
Get rid of them. Burn the crops, assassinate the dealers and lords, stop the trafficking. They CAUSE people to do stupid things that harm others on a scale MUCH more massive than alcohol, can no one see the reason in that?

Your stance on Abortion?
It's murder. There is a LIVING HUMAN LIFE FORM inside of another woman. Abortion is like killing a baby because the mother does not want to share her breast milk. Murder, first degree, penalty? Death.

Your stance on Homosexuality?
Brainwash the fags into normal people so they can live their lives in a better way. It isn't natural or moral. Just end it and fix their sinful lives.

Your stance on the Economy?
Capitalism. It's fair, it's better for an economy and it is what's right. Should you not get what you earn? Shouldn't the choice of giving to those in need be left to the people? The SAME people that communists seem to "represent".

Your stance on Religion?
Christian. Religious views can be argued on NSG, since its all they have to do.

Your stance on Law and Order?
Iron fist. We need law and order to keep society in order. Anarchy is impossible, plain and simple. All anarchist states have someone step in and take over after they have been that way for a short wile. Anarchy just ain't gonna happen, so don't try.

Your stance on Immigration?
None. Mexicans should not be jumping the border. pay your damn taxes and go through all the heartache the rest of us do or go back to mexico where you don't have to.

Your stance on Drugs?
Banned. Killing yourself for a two hour high is only something a complete dumbass does.

Your stance on Abortion?
Banned. Killing a human is not ok. You wouldn't go shoot a man on the street so why shoot him as a baby in the whom.

Your stance on Homosexuality?
I hate it. If homosexuality was meant to be, men could have babies off of other men.

Your stance on the Economy?
Capitalist. Communism is susceptible to the greed of man, nothing will change that. Communism suppresses inventors and growth, therefore leaving communist states backwards and failed.
